Fighting fire with fire on the SRF Lightning Complex

Crew is on R&R after a solid assignment. We spent the majority of the roll prepping, burning and holding.

With time to do things, we kept the firing operations at low intensity and still met incident objectives.

WYOMING IHC TEMP APPLICATION DATES HAVE CHANGED to SEPT 29th - OCT 6th

This post will hit on some of the FAQ's I get about the Wyoming Hotshots saw program and give applicants an idea of what to expect as well as show a few a few old pictures of our sawyers and cache.
Our standard configuration is 3 saw teams and we're a tank for tank crew meaning the sawyer/swamper position alternates after each tank of fuel. We also have a predetermined 4th saw team if need be. During normal workload days we run sigs rather than dolmars. Sawyers and crewmembers carry 2 sigs each.

Something else I'd like to hit on is our expectation that sawyers learn to fully take care of their saws mechanically. We do all of our own diagnostics and repairs. We never take our saws to the shop. We teach our sawyers how to properly tune their saws, rebuild carburetors and top ends as needed, and how to fix anything else that might need fixing. Sometimes it might look a little chaotic as multiple saws are being worked on as you can see in the second picture but we want our sawyers to know more than just line cutting and tree felling.

Big thanks to the Reno Fire Department @renofiredept for taking the time to show the crew some of the gear and techniques used when extracting injured patients on rough terrain. They were assigned to the Moose Fire as a REM team, or rapid extraction module. REM teams are small teams of highly qualified medical personnel who specialize in getting injured patients out of difficult access areas.
In a real life situation it would be a joint effort between the REM team and whatever crew was available to help. Training like this before anything ever happens helps everything run more smoothly in the unfortunate event of someone being injured and helps saves time when every minute counts.
